Great Britain
1840 One Penny Black
Plate 1a
OA-QB block of six (2x3), just touched along left though with clear margins elsewhere, tied by crisp Maltese Crosses to 1840 (7 May) entire from Chester to Manchester, endorsed "Under 3oz" and with red Chester town d.s. for 07.05.40 on reverse; one or two minor faults, the block having been lifted and pressed, though of trifling significance as this is one of just two such covers bearing large multiples from the first four days of use in private hands. A remarkable showpiece. R.P.S. Certificate (1974)

Notes: The other example is from the same correspondence and bears a block of six lettered MH-NJ, sent on the 9th May. This was offered by Spink in 2001 (20 September).
