1825 (31 May), entire letter from Douglas to "Secretary to the Royal National Institute for the Preservation of life from Shipwreck" in London, rated 1/5 in manuscript, on reverse, "isle of man" (Willcocks & Jay 12) and arrival datestamp, intact red wax seal; vertical filing fold, fine. With interesting contents regarding the loss of life of the Post Boy when the Steam packet "James Mall" had to anchor a way off the harbour because of bad weather, boats taking the passengers and mail to shore were swamped and sunk with the loss of life of George Nugent who had charge of the post.
