1859 Perkins Bacon original master die proof of the type 2 octagonal design used for the 4d., 8d., 9d. and 2/- values in black on India paper (35 x 42mm.), prior to the engraving of 'ceylon' and value, combining the frame used for the Tasmania 6d., with 'tasmania' and '6d.' obliterated by engine turning but still visible, with the Jeens head used for the 1859 Ionian Islands issue. A superb item of the highest importance and rarity, being one of three recorded in private hands. Photo
