The James Song FRPSL Large Gold Medal Collection of The Chin Hills District
After the Japanese occupied Rangoon in March 1942, an emergency mail service was organised by Major A.G. McCall, District Commissioner, Lushai Hills at Aijal.
The postal runners made an eight day journey from Haka, Tiddim and Fort White via Falam to Aijal in Assam and thence to India.
By July stamps overprinted "service"
had become exhausted and ordinary postage stamps overprinted "ohms" by typewriter were approved

1942 (14 Sept.) large brown OHMS envelope (400x290mm.; folded for display) registered to Tiddim with "office of superintendent of chin hills/falam" red wax seal on reverse, bearing 1a. purple-brown block of five with the top strip of three with diagonal handstamped "serVic" (Type 6) in violet and the lower pair with type-written "ohms" (Type 7) and diagonally handstamped "ohms" in violet, and 3a.6p. pair with type-written "ohms" (Type 12) and singles (2) with type-written "ohms" (Type 11), all clearly tied by double-ring d.s., showing provisional registration label with arrival datestamp (16.9) on reverse. Very rare with three types of typewriters and the block of five being the only recorded multiple. Photo
