The James Song FRPSL Large Gold Medal Collection of The Chin Hills District
After the Japanese occupied Rangoon in March 1942, an emergency mail service was organised by Major A.G. McCall, District Commissioner, Lushai Hills at Aijal.
The postal runners made an eight day journey from Haka, Tiddim and Fort White via Falam to Aijal in Assam and thence to India.

1942 (1 July) envelope from Capt. W. Smart, Chin Hills Battn, Burma Frontier Force, to his wife in Delhi and redirected to Dehra Dum, marked "On Active Service", bearing 1a. purple-brown pair tied by double-ring d.s. and showing, on reverse, Aijal, Calcutta and arrival slogan d.s. Rare, one of four covers recorded, this being the earliest recorded carried by runners. Photo
