IN NEW ENGLAND AN . DO, I 6 5 2 | X I I in two lines across field, the X like a curule chair, 4.850g, 12h (Noe 28; Salmon 10-D; W-920; Breen 60), usual die capping and splitting to peripheries resulting in legend softness, otherwise lightly cabinet toned, very fine, and very rare, an icon of American numismatics, this example unseen and unavailable to collectors since the 19th Century, and particularly poignant to be offered in Spink's rooms given the Company's direct investment in the Saugus Ironworks where the dies were first produced
