Provenance
The Alfred Leonard Fuller of Bath Collection (1870-1941)
Acquired from Messrs Spink & Son, 10 February 1898 - £1.10.0
Spink Numismatic Circular, February 1898 (P.2607, no. 43309) - "GEORGIVS.II. DEI.GRATIA. Laureate bust, to left, Rev. Four shields; plumes and roses in the angles. A cabinet specimen, R. F.D.C." - £2.0.0
The concordance of Fuller's manuscript with specific listings in the Numismatic Circular has only been achievable because Fuller never opted to negotiate on list prices, even on the momentous occasion of his 'Crown Raid' of Spink on 10 February 1898 where he spent over £100.0.0 (a quarter of the value of his collection) in one afternoon! Perhaps this is what led Samuel Spink and William Webster to acquiesce to a 25% price reduction on this very coin, sparing Fuller an extra 10 Shillings on this coin! It is thus the only recorded instance of his negotiation on Spink's pricing of any coin in his collection!
