Charles II (1660-1685), 'Mule' Welsh 'Plumes' Shilling, 1679, CAROLVS • II • - DEI • GRATIA, second laureate and draped bust right, plume below bust, rev. no stop after HIB, four crowned shields cruciform, Garter Star in centre, six strings to harp, edge obliquely milled, 5.94g, 6h (Pywell-Phillips -; ESC 1057 [R2]; Bull 547 [R3]; S.3378), darkly cabinet toned and lightly flecked with underlying lustre, a pleasing very fine, a very rare mule
