Charles II (1660-1685), First Hammered Issue, Halfcrown, c. 1660-1662, Tower, CAROLVS · II · D · G · MAG · BRIT · FRAN · ET · HIB · REX, crowned and armoured bust left with long hair and falling lace collar, rev. CHRISTO · AVSPICE · REGNO, square shield over long cross fleury, 14.93g, 12h, i.m. crown [on obverse only] (ESC 448; Bull 270; North 2759; S.3307), flan wastage at FRAN resulting in a soft strike, otherwise a wholesome and attractive cabinet piece, a most pleasing very fine, especially so in hand, and rare in this quality as exemplified by its status as the most expensive coin Fuller purchased; exceeding even the contemporary ask-prices for 'extremely fine' Five Guinea pieces of the same monarch!
