Commonwealth (1649-1660), Sixpence, 1649, Tower, · THE · COMMONWEALTH · OF · ENGLAND · shield of England in wreath of laurel and palm, in thin wire-line inner circle, rev. · GOD · WITH · VS · value over shields of England and Ireland in beaded circle, 2.93g, 7h, i.m. sun [on obverse only] (ESC 1483; Bull 177; North 2726; S.3219), speckled carbon spotting across lustrous and gunmetal-toned fields, with a trace of doubling to finer details, otherwise a pleasing very fine, the obverse better still and the rare seminal date of issue for 'Breeches Money'
