Commonwealth (1649-1660), Crown, 1651, Tower, · THE · COMMONWEALTH · OF · ENGLAND · shield of England in wreath of laurel and palm, rev. · GOD · WITH · VS · value over shields of England and Ireland in beaded circle, 29.82g, 5h, i.m. sun [on obverse only] (ESC 3 [R4]; Bull 3 [R4]; Tisbury I, 822; North 2721; S.3214), bright but lustrous with hints of very minor metal stressing on a broad flan, lightly but colourfully cabinet toned, good very fine, a very rare date and finer than the Montagu specimen

The difficulty of obtaining crowns of this date will be realised when Mr Montagu was only able to procure one "well preserved", RRR. extremely fine" - £7.10.0
