Charles I (1625-1649), Group G, Type 4.5, Shilling, 15 February 1646 - 9 November 1649, Tower (under Parliament), (m.m.) CAROLVS • D .' G .' MAG .' BRI .' FRA .' ET • HIB .' REX • seventh crowned and armoured bust left, wearing stellate lace collar, XII behind, rev. (m.m.) • CHRISTO • AVSPICE • REGNO • square-topped shield over large cross moline, 5.972g, 9h, m.m. sceptre (Hawkins 517; Brooker 565-566; Sharp H1/1; North 2233; S.2802), a beautiful example of this immensely difficult 'end of reign' issue, handsomely uniform for strike and tone, even with the obverse legends somewhat rotated in the die, with further delightful underlying lustre and colourful flaring in recesses, a pleasingly bold very fine, very rare in this exemplary condition
