Elizabeth I (1558-1603), Fifth Issue, Sixpences, Tower (2), 1578 over 7, (m.m.) ELIZABETH : D .' G .' ANG .' FR .' ET • HI .' REGINA, beaded inner circles, larger crowned and draped bust 5A left, large rose with stamen filaments behind, rev. (m.m.) POSVI DEV .' AD-IVTORE-M • MEV .' beaded inner circles, square-topped shield over long cross fourchée, large 15-78/7 above shield, 2.868g, 4h, m.m. Greek Cross [over eglantine on reverse only] (BCW CR-2/CR-b; North 1997; S.2572), slightly clipped with surface marks, otherwise toned with hints of lustre, a bolder fine; another, 1582 over 1, similar, rev. large 15-82/1 above shield, forked leaf 17, 3.058g, 2h, m.m. sword (BCW SW-2/SW-a [but not over Eglantine]; North 1997; S.2572), crimped and scuffed with metal stressing and central striking softness, otherwise toned, the centres scarcely fair, the peripheries very fine; lastly, Sixth Issue, 1582, as before, rev. large 15-82 above shield, 2.814g, 8h, m.m. bell (BCW BL-2/BL-b1; North 2015; S.2578), heavily circulated and slightly doubled, but very scarce with the full ELIZABETH reading for this type, only good, but scarce (3)
