Philip and Mary (1554-1558), Shilling, Undated [1554], Tower, PHILIP • ET • MARIA • D • G • R • ANG • FR • NEAP • PR • HISP • crowned busts vis-a-vis, rev. POSVIMS [sic] • DEVM • ADIVTOREM • NOSTRVM • crowned and garnished oval shield, dividing X-II above, 5.951g, 5h (Grant R Francis, BNJ Paper, 26 April 1922, p. 4; Lockett IV, 4087; North 1967; S.2498), small edge split and lightly creased through Philip's portrait, otherwise the die-preparation pellet at centre beautifully sharp, equally so is the effigy of 'Bloody' Mary right down to her pearl-necklace, lightly toned, a really pleasingly bold very fine, truly rare in this state!
