Edward IV, First Reign (1461-1470), Heavy Coinage, Penny, 1462-1464, King's Receiver, Durham, Local Dies, cruder crowned bust facing, rev. CIVITAS DVNOLI, long cross and trio of pellets in angles, rose at centre, 0.633g, 10h, m.m. short cross fitchée (Allen 167; North 1544; S.2053), struck small with ghosting, hints of verdigris in lightly toned fields, a bolder fine; another, Light Coinage, Bishop Lawrence Booth, 1465-1470, similar, D and quatrefoil by neck, rev. additional pellet in third quarter, 0.686g, 2h, m.m. crown (Allen 174; North 1604; S.2057), creased and clipped, darkly toned, fair; others (3), York, struck from London Dies (3), Archbishop George Neville, 1471-1472, similar but more refined portrait, G and Key by neck, rev. quatrefoil at centre, 0.710g, 3h, m.m. short cross fitchée (North 1645; S.2125), crimped and clipped, otherwise darkly cabinet toned, a bolder fine; and, Neville Suspended, 1472-1474 (2), no marks by neck, rev. as last, 0.750g, 10h, m.m. rose (North 1647; S.2127), lightly clipped, otherwise toned, a really good fine; and, as last, but lombardic E and Rose by neck, 0.732g, 4h (North 1648; S.2128), rubbed and waterworn, otherwise darkly toned, fair; additionally, Halfpennies (2), Edward IV (1461-1470), Heavy Coinage, Type II, Halfpenny, London, m.m. EDWARD : DI : GRA : REX :, crowned bust facing, quatrefoils by neck, rev. CIVITAS LONDON, long cross and trio of pellets in angles, 0.400g, 12h, m.m. rose [or heraldic cinquefoil] (B & W II; North 1546; S.1990), minor flan split, otherwise a remarkably full flan for issue, richly cabinet toned, a pleasing very fine and still surprisingly scarce in higher grades; lastly, Light Coinage, 1466-1469, similar to last reading EWARD DI GRA REX [sic], trefoils by neck, 0.406g, 4h, m.m. crown (North 1608; S.2068), clipped but of full weight and thus as a result of Mint regulation, cabinet toned, good fine / very fine (7)
