John 'Lacklands' (1199-1216), 'Shortcross' Penny, c. 1206, Class 5b3, Canterbury, Samuel, hENRICVS R | EX, crowned bust facing, 'broken eye punches', pelleted curls 2/2, rev. + SAMVEL • ON • CAN, voided short cross pommée, cross pommées in angles, 1.486g [22.932grns], 5h, i.m. cross pattée (SCBI Mass 1390-1391; North 970; S.1351), a superlative example of the 'broken eye punch' variety, with some striking flatness to peripheries, otherwise a superbly bold very fine to extremely fine, rare in this excellent state
