William 'the Conqueror' (1066-1087), 'Two Stars' Penny, 1074-1077, London, Godwig, + PILLEM REX A, commencing at 12 o'clock, crowned bust facing, stars flanking in fields, rev. + GOPI ON LVNDE [sic], pellet-tipped quatrefoil over cross bottonée, 1.200g [18.519grns], 6h (Hawkins 238; Rev. G F Crowther, Numismatic Chronicle [Third Series, Volume XI, 1891], Type VI; Rev. T F Dymock [1858], 178 = Rostron [1892], 22 = Astronomer [1906], 214; Capt. R M Murchison [1864], 19 = BMC 349 [GODPI ON LVND]; SCBI 20 [Mack], 1381 [Sale I, lot 230 = Scaldwell]; North 845; BMC V, 353 [GOPI ON LIINDE]; S.1254), some roughness to reverse peripheries, otherwise of excellent metal, flatteringly cabinet toned with flares and colourful huing in recesses, a bolder very fine, an extremely rare type in private hands, but five die varieties in the British Museum, including two from the Beauworth (1833) trove
