Auction: 24012 - The Lionheart Collection of Great Britain and British Empire Part XVIII
Lot: 1154

(x) British Guiana
1856 Provisional Issue
4d. black on magenta, initialled "jbs" (Smith), large margins all round, very lightly used and until recently considered one of the four finest recorded unused examples ( with R.P.S. and Friedl Certificate stating such) however, the small visible part of the cancellation at foot was trimmed sometime after it was sold as part of the Ferrary collection in 1924 (See image of the stamp as lot 192 in Ferrary part 10). Still a superb used example with good colour and huge margins, and a stamp with a fascinating chequered past. S.G. 24, £25,000
