A group of interesting and unusual usages of the 1d. lilac (9), including Parliamentary covers (2) comprising 1884 (26 May) Registered envelope to Lichfield bearing 1d. lilac with a fine strike of the rare 'house.of.commons/ 1/ my 26/84' circular datestamp alongside; also 1895 (17 Jul.) envelope to Yorkshire bearing 1d. lilac tied by 'house.of.commons' duplex and signed 'Richard Webster', MP for the Isle of Wight at lower left; two fine Boer War covers comprising 1900 (17 Sept.) envelope from Orange Free State to London bearing O.F.S. 1d. mauve with Soldier's endorsement at top in red ink; 1901 (5 May) envelope sent Registered from Pretoria to Kimberley bearing Transvaal 1d. (4) in combination with unusual local usage of 1d. lilac; additional items include 1897 envelope to Colwyn Bay bearing an unpermitted bisected 1d. lilac cancelled and with a manuscript black ink cross alongside and charged '1d. to pay', an 1896 envelope to Glasgow, 1895 postal stationery 1d. reply card to U.S.A. uprated by 1½d., 1924 envelope to Chester bearing 1d. lilac in combination with 1912-24 ½d. green, also Postal Savings Bank savings account scheme with forty-eight 1d. lilac stamps affixed (some faults); a fine and interesting group.
