The Tudor Correspondence
1899 (1 Dec.) - 1900 (29 Mar.) envelopes (16, all with original letters) ex the Rev. Hugh Tudor correspondence to his wife whilst travelling with the Tembuland Field Force from Umtata via Engcobo, Cala, Dordrecht, and Aliwal North to the OFS, one is unstamped and marked "On Active Service", the others franked at 1d. or 2d.; condition a little mixed though a fascinating lot

Note: The Tembulnd Field Force was organised during December 1899 and comprised 180 white volunteers and 1600 Fingos and Tembus, who were kept at Engcobo, Cala and Indwe, as well as some advanced detachments near the Wodehouse and Barkly East borders. This was done to keep the Boers from invading native areas in Eastern Cape.
