Edward III (1327-1377), First Coinage, Halfpenny, 1333-1342, Class VIIIb, Berwick-upon-Tweed, + EDWARDVS D GR, crowned bust facing, rev. VILLA BERVICI, long cross, with trio or pellets or bear’s head in alternating quarters, 0.59g, 8h (Blunt Type 8(b); Withers 6; SCBI 39 [North] 1159; North 1090; S.1537), some radial daylight cracking to rims, and once lightly cleaned with traces of die clashing, otherwise on a broad round flan, about very fine, the devices pleasingly bold for this noted rarity
