EXVRGAT : DEVS : DISSIPENTVR : INIMICI  • : •, RELIG : PROT | LEG : ANG | LIBER : PAR in three-lined wavy continuous scroll, three even plumes bands and  • III • above, 1643 below, 26.64g, p.m plume (B-J VI/S9; Schneider II, 296 same dies; Brooker 838A same dies; North 2834; S.2727), specks of red wax in recesses, obverse slightly doubled and softness to areas of the devices, nonetheless with a red-golden tone and pleasingly centred portrait, good very fine, the most iconic albeit short-lived issue of the English Civil War, with an esteemed provenance, rare, in NGC holder graded AU53 (Cert. 45919802)
