Henry III (1216-1272), First 'Forgotten' Recoinage, Shortcross Issues, Class 7a4, Round Halfpenny, struck from 16 February 1221 [OS] (Ash Wednesday 1222) / and made current 25 April 1222 [OS], London, Terri "le Chaunier" (Custodes Monetæ), crowned bust facing, band of five pellets surmounted by trefoil, hair of 2½ curls each side, with 'duck-pout' lips and neck-beard whiskers, rev. (i.m.) TER•RI ON LVND, voided short cross with crosses pommées, 0.67g, 7h, i.m. estoile-in-crescent (BM 1989.0616.1 same dies, albeit before addition of second stop between N and D of LVND ["LVN•D"]; cf. Mayhew & Smith [BNJ, 1990], p. 136; PAS: NMS-A35DD1 this coin; SCBI [Mass 7a3], - [cf. Sale II, lot 782 - RAVLF]; North 981/4; S.1357D), a small striking split at 8 o'clock and light speckles of horn silver, otherwise beautifully round and uniform for strike, a pleasingly bold very fine, OF THE HIGHEST RARITY with only seven documented specimens, this only the third recorded example of 'Terri the Money-Changer', and finest in private hands
