Henry I 'Beauclerc (1100-1135), 'Facing Bust/Cross in Quatrefoil' Sub-Variety, Penny, c. 1109, Southwark, Driu, + hENRICV[S], uncrowned and draped three-quarters bust left, holding lys-tipped sceptre over shoulder, no quadrilobe in right field, rev. + DRIV [: O]N : SDE• recumbent S, short cross fleury annulets in angles, all in voided quadrilobe with annulets at tips and voided quatrefoils in spandrels, 1.06g [16.36grns], 4h, i.m. cross pattée (Allen [2012] -; North - [cf. 865 variety]; BMC - [cf. IX variety]; S. - [cf. 1270 variety]), crimped, creased and straightened, some peripheral striking softness, otherwise bright and on a neat round flan, about very fine for issue, a previously unrecorded moneyer and Southwark mint sub-variant of the Type 9 coinage, UNIQUE and of numismatic interest thus
