CAESAR VESPASIANVS AVG, laureate head "of Vitellius" right, rev. Judaea seated right in attitude of mourning, head resting upon right hand, a trophy of arms behind, IVDAEA in exergue, 7.37g, 6h (Cohen [1857], no. 107; F W Madden [1864], p. 183, Chapter VIII, no. 1; Hendin ????; Calicó -; Thomas Thomas [1844], 1055 = Lord Holmesdale [1850], 690 = Edward Wigan [1864] = "Roman Gold Coins", Numismatic Chronicle [1864/65], p. 27, no. 38 = BMC 1864,1128.38 = BMC 357 these dies [Tarraco]; PAS CAM 9D9B6D = BNJ Coin Register 2018, no. 33 ['Tarraco'] this coin; RIC II², p. 152, no. 1315 [Rome]), minor excavation scuff to reverse, otherwise lustrous and attractively centred, good very fine, and exceedingly rare as a provincial Military mint issue, the only other example from this obverse die accessioned into the National Collection through the benevolence of legendary collector Edward Wigan in 1864!, in an NGC 'Ancients' holder, graded Extremely Fine (Strike: 5/5, Surfaces: 2/5) [NGC Cert. #8220527-001]
