NGC Ch XF ~ Fine Style | Roman Empire, Maximian I, first reign (AD 285-305), AE Folls, Treveri, post-reform group IV, struck c. 298-299, IMP MAXIMIANVS AVG, laureate, draped and helmeted bust left, holding spear over right shoulder, with shield in left hand, rev. GENIO POPVLI ROMANI, Genius standing left, nude but for Mobius on head and chalmys over left shoulder, holding patera in his right hand and cornucopiae in his left, B to left field, * to right, TR in exergue, 8.32g (RIC 316b var. spear held over shoulder as portrait type Y), a scarce and unusual type, combining disparate portraiture motifs, legend and mint-mark, detailed and residually lustrous, a good very fine or better, in an NGC 'Ancients' holder, graded Choice Extremely Fine ~ Fine Style (Strike: 5/5, Surface: 4/5) [NGC Cert. #8221849-020]
