Provenance

~ Found in Somerset, 2023 ~

The celebration of the Act of Union between the historic Kingdoms of Scotland and England proved a logistical challenge for the Royal Mint under Sir Isaac Newton's mastery. Not only was the Julian calendar still influencing the calculation date for the specie [alongside the separate calculation of regnal year in latin], but the supply of bullion from the Royal African Company was bolstering supplies at the very time the Royal shields were due revision to reflect the harmony between the guardant English and rampant Scottish lions. To add further to this melting pot, Croker's revised second portrait of the Queen to be used on the Guineas and Shillings was ready for production. Consequently the following chronology develops for Queen Anne's Gold coinage:

1706 QVINTO

As can be seen from even the most up-to-date references, the complexity of this series has resulted in omissions and oversights from even the most specialised works.
