Hugh Robert Munro Macmillan was born on 25 November 1885 at Cuttack, Bengal/Orissa, India. He was educated at La Martinere College, Lucknow between 1901-05, followed by education at the Thomason Civil Engineering College, Roorkee, India between 1905-08 and was admitted as a student to the Institution of Civil Engineers on 22 March 1910. Macmillan was employed on the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway between 1911-1928, rising to the position of Deputy Chief Engineer Construction in 1925. He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 1 December 1913 into the Bombay, Baroda and Central India Railway Regiment, being promoted to Lieutenant on 1 April 1917. He was awarded a Volunteer Force L.S. & G.C. Medal on 1 November 1923 (I.A.O. 757 of 1923, refers). Macmillan was promoted Captain on 1 October 1924. He died at the Royal Masonic Hospital Hammersmith, Fulham, London on 28 April 1934; sold together with detailed copied research.
