Simeon Edwards was born at Dorking, Surrey in January 1874, the son of Simeon and Elizabeth Edwards of Dorking, his father had for a long time been publican of the Three Tuns pub. The younger Edwards joined the 1st Life Guards on 23 January 1891 and remained with them at home for the next eight years until they were posted to South Africa for services in the Anglo-Boer War on 29 November 1899.
They relieved Kimberley and were part of the Cavalry force which managed to corral the Boers at Paardeberg before also seeing action at Driefontein. The Regiment were also in action at Sannah's Post in March 1900, before Edwards left for Britain on 10 June 1900. As a senior member of the Regiment he was very likely on duty for the funeral of Queen Victoria in 1901 and the Coronation of Edward VII in August 1902. Edwards remained with the Regiment for the Funeral of Edward VII in 1910 and Coronation of George V in 1911.
Discharged with an L.S. & G.C. on 22 February 1912 at Regent's Park, he re-enlisted in March 1915 during the Great War and served at home until April 1919, receiving no medals. Continuing to live in London, Edwards worked as a commissioner and died at St. Pancras in March 1935; sold together with copied service papers and census data.
Simeon Edwards was born at Horsham, Surrey in 1853, the son of Simeon and Ann Edwards. He spent much of his life as a publican, notably running the Three Tuns pub on Dorking High Street and a Volunteer Fire Fighter, serving for many years with the Dorking branch of the Surrey Fire Brigade; sold together with copied census data and a newspaper extract.
