Eustace Dupuis Henchman Stocker was born on 7 July 1884 at Dedham, Essex. He originally began his service as a Private in the Victoria College Officer's Training Corps in 1909 and was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant into the 5th Regiment (Wellington Rifles) on 26 February 1912 as well as being a Solicitor within the New Zealand Civil Service. He travelled to England in 1914 and was attached for training to the 1st Battalion, The King’s (Liverpool) Regiment. He enlisted in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force in London on 28 September 1914. Stocker served with New Zealand Army Service Corps (Divisional Train), proceeding to Egypt in December 1914. On 14 May 1915 he transferred to the Imperial Forces and served with The King’s (Liverpool) Regiment on the Western Front, serving between 22 July 1915 - 3 August 1917. He returned to England on 4 August 1917 and joined the War Office on 24 September 1917 and did not see any further service overseas for the Great War.

In early 1919 he was serving as a Staff Captain with the Adjutant General's Department at the War Office. His house at Great Bookham, Surrey, was destroyed by fire on 16 December 1927 and consequently his Medals were officially replaced.

Stocker was promoted to Brevet Major on 1 July 1931 and to Substantive Major on 17 September 1934. He became Military Assistant (D.A.A.G.) from 17 September 1934-3 September 1939 and during this time was employed with the British Troops in Palestine and Trans-Jordan from 14 September 1936-23 March 1937 and became D.J.A.G. (Class Y to 31 July 1938). He further became Temporary Lieutenant Colonel from 24 November 1937-11 September 1938. Served as Acting Lieutenant-Colonel 4 September-3 December 1939 and Temporary Lieutenant Colonel from 4 December 1939-12 May 1943. He was Temporary Colonel 13 May-13 July 1943 and on 24 May 1945. Stocker died at Wellington, New Zealand on 5 February 1972.
