Canada General Service 1866-70, 1 clasp, Fenian Raid 1866 (Capt. Strd. C. McLaughlin. H.M.S. Wolverine.), contemporarily engraved naming, good very fine and rare

Just 10 Medals to Wolverine.

Charles McLaughlin was born at Londonderry, Ireland on 17 March 1837 and volunteered for the Royal Navy on 22 January 1855, having five years in the Merchant Service from Liverpool. If he was in Wolverine in 1865 he would have crossed paths with Admiral Horsey. He was Senior Officer at Jamaica in the Wolverine during the rebellion of 1865, and received the thanks of the Governor and both Houses of Parliament, and was voted a piece of plate, value £100, which the rules of the services prevented his receiving.

The vessel thence played her parts in the Fenian Raids on the Canadian lakes in 1866.
