Naval General Service 1793-1840, 1 clasp, Java (John Jones.), light contact marks, very fine

John Jones served as a Private of the Royal Marines aboard the fifth rate frigate H.M.S. Hussar, commanded by Captain James Coutts Crawford.

During the invasion of Java, the H.M.S. Hussar was part of a band of frigates that on 31 August fought against the defending Dutch forces to capture the fort of Sumenep on Madura Island. This victory resulted in the rest of Madura and some of the surrounding islands coming under British rule.
