A Great War Military Medal group to Sergeant L. F. Warner, 391st Siege Battery, Royal Garrison Artillery; latterly joining the Metropolitan Police, he spent time at Marlborough House and evidently became a favourite of Queen Mary

Leslie Frank Warner was born in London in 1898 and was a billiard marker by trade when he enlisted in the Royal Garrison Artillery on 2 June 1910. Entering France on 23 May 1915, he later served with the 391 Siege Battery and won his Military Medal whilst serving in Italy.

Warner joined the Metropolitan Police on 2 June 1919 and retired as a Sergeant on 6 April 1947; sold together with his Pay Book, Discharge Certificates, two Christmas cards signed by Queen Mary, his Metropolitan Police pension form in which it's noted that his conduct was exemplary, uniform medal wearing bar.

In addition, there is a letter from the Private Secretary to Queen Mary addressed to Richard & Christopher Warner mentioning that Queen Mary misses seeing their father when he was on duty at Marlborough House.
