D.S.M. London Gazette 21 April 1917. The recommendation states:

'For services in patrol cruisers under the command of Vice-Admiral G. O. Tupper, C.B., C.V.O., during the period 1 July to 31 December 1916.'

Geroge Francis Cook was born at Dover on 28 May 1867 and joined the Royal Navy in November 1882. Having earned his L.S. & G.C. Medal aboard Terror and promoted Master at Arms in March 1902, during the Great War he served aboard Patuca from 16 December 1914-8 March 1918. She was an ex-armed merchant cruiser and latterly became a kite balloon ship from January 1917. During the period she managed to collide with the Swedish cruiser Oscar II and also lost her Armed Guard in March 1916 (ADM 1/8454/87, refers). Cook was demobilised in June 1919 and died in Spring 1949.
