Crimea 1854-56, 1 clasp, Sebastopol (J. Oliver. 4th Lt. Dragns.), officially impressed naming, heavy contact marks, therefore fine

James Oliver was born at Stratford, London, and enlisted there on 15 September 1854, aged 18. He joined the regiment in the Crimea on 20 June 1855, and served during the siege of Sebastopol. He re-engaged at Perth for a further period of 12 years service in September 1866 and subsequently served in India for a little over four years. He was discharged at Canterbury on 25 October 1875, after 21 years service. He had also been awarded the L.S. & G.C. Medal with a gratuity of £5 in August 1875, latterly intending to reside at No. 5 Engine Street, Piccadilly, London.
