Following the death of King George VI, at her Coronation Elizabeth II was crowned as Queen of seven independent Commonwealth nations. In her Coronation Oath, the new Queen promised ;...to govern the Peoples of... Pakistan...according to their respective laws and customs.'

The Standard of Pakistan at the Coronation was borne by Mirza Abol Hassan Ispahani. In the days prior to the Coronation, the Pakistani contingent were given the honour of standing guard at Buckingham Palace on 29 May 1953 and on Coronation Day itself.
