Albert Voysey was born circa 1861 in Devonshire and attested with the 7th Hussars on 3 December 1879, with whom he served under Regimental number 2143 until 24 July 1882, when he transferred to the 19th Hussars. Voysey departed for Egypt the following August and served in the Egypt, Sudan, and Nile campaigns as well as in what Winston Churchill called 'The most savage and bloody action ever fought in the Sudan by British troops'.

Voysey fought at the Battle of Abu Klea on 17 January 1885, where they were the only cavalry Regiment to be mounted on horses rather than on camels. During the battle, the main body of the unit was positioned to the left of the square formation with a smaller detachment to the right. The Dervishes eventually broke the square but the battle still ended with a British victory.

Shortly after his return home in June 1886, Voysey transferred to the 1st Class Army Reserve and was finally discharged in December 1891; sold together with copied research.
