The Sutlej Medal awarded to Private G. Garnett, 62nd Foot, who was wounded in action at Ferozeshuhur

Sutlej 1845-46, for Ferozeshuhur, 1 clasp, Sobraon (George Garnett 62nd Regt), edge bruising, toning, otherwise good very fine

George Garnett was born in Salford, Lancashire and worked as a trade labourer before enlisting there with the 62nd Foot in March 1839, embarking for India just two months later where he joined his Battalion at Madras. Whilst serving in the Sutlej campaign, he was wounded in action during the Battle of Ferozeshah but it is unlikely to have been a severe blow as Garnett was present at the Battle of Sobraon with unit on 10 February 1846.

Garnett was posted to the Cape of Good Hope in 1847 along with a detachment of the 62nd Foot and a few months later was transferred to the 45th Foot where he acted as Staff Officer Servant. Records show that Garnett was in hospital for a few months in 1852 before he died at Tamacha, British Kaffraria in October of that year; sold together with copied research, including the Sutlej Casualty Roll.
