South Africa 1834-53 (Michl Buggy, 12th Rl Lancers), edge bruising, contact marks, very fine

Michael Buggy was born in Kilkenny, Ireland circa 1825 and enlisted with the 12th Royal Lancers at Dublin in 1842. He participated in the Third Kaffir War and served in Operations in the Transkei, the Waterkloof, and against the Basutos in the Berea. Buggy also served in the Indian Mutiny with his Regiment in Major-General Whitlock's Saugor Field Force in Central India, where they were involved in several engagements in 1858 including the routing of the enemy at Jhigan, two charges at Banda and helping to force the surrender of the two Raes of Kirwi (Medal & clasp). The Saugor Field Force was broken up in spring 1860, after which Buggy transferred to the 1st Bengal Light Cavalry; sold together with copied research.
