Military General Service 1793-1814, 1 clasp, Egypt (J. Jordan, 12th Lt Dragns.), a few edge knocks, otherwise good very fine
John Jordan was born in 1767 near Clones, County Monaghan. He enlisted with the 31st Light Dragoons in July 1794 but was transferred to the 12th Light Dragoons in 1796 upon the Regiment's disbandment. Jordan was stationed in Portugal from 1797 until disembarking at Aboukir with Abercrombie's force in 1801. While in Egypt, the unit charged a French reconnaissance party in March of that year and captured a French convoy in May. They returned to England early in 1802.
Jordan was discharged on 8 March 1816 at Deptford, aged 49, after 21 years and 228 days of service, due to 'chronic rheumatism and a wound'. According to his pension register it appears that Jordan spent the rest of his life in County Cavan, where he passed away 20 December 1858 at the impressive age of 91; sold together with copied research.
