The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Member's (M.B.E.) breast Badge, Civil Division, silver, in its Royal Mint case of issue; Defence Medal 1939-45; Coronation 1937; Coronation 1953, all awards in their card boxes of issue, the first named and addressed, good very fine (4)

Reginald Peter Thorne was born at Dunstable, Bedfordshire on 13 September 1895 the son of William and Kate Thorne. Qualifying as an Incorporated Accountant and Chartered Secretary he earned a degree from Fitzwilliam House in the early 1930s.
Thorne went to work for the Cambridgeshire Council and was the second-in-command for that institution during the Second World War. He was further a member of the City of Cambridge Savings Committee and for fifty years of service to that institution he received the M.B.E.
A founder Trustee of the Cambridge and District Trustee Savings Bank he was closely involved with its running throughout his life. Thorne died on 30 December 1967; sold together with several National Savings Movement and National Savings Committee enamelled Badges as well as original newspaper clippings, photographs and documents of issue.
