Hamish Alexander Stewart was born in India in 1917, the son of Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Dron Stewart. Young Stewart returned to his native Scotland and went to Edinburgh University to read Medicine. Having qualified in 1939, he was swiftly commissioned into the Royal Navy and served variously in North Atlantic convoys and thence in LST 363 off Normandy in July 1944. Returned to civilian life, he took up practice in Peebles. A keen member of the local church and Rotary Club, he died in August 1998; sold together with riband bars, buttons, photographs and his Royal Navy bullion Badge.
