Auction: 23888 - The Michael E. Bonine Collection of Persian and World Banknotes
Lot: 58

(x) Imperial Bank, Kingdom of Persia, 1 Toman, Pehlevi, 25th October 1926, serial number A/Y 001915, Pehlevi (Bandar-e Anzali) was one of the last branch banks to be opened by the Imperial Bank of Persia. Located near the much larger and more prominent commercial city of Resht, this small city branch was established to promote British commerce.
They opened their doors in August 1926 and with their first issues in September 1926, this note is dated just one month after the branch opening.
This collection has only two banknotes from Pehlevi branch, and this is only the second time that Spink has offered examples from the Pehlevi branch.
Despite the lower denomination, this branch banknote is likely missing in the majority of collections of Persian Banknotes
