Auction: 23888 - The Michael E. Bonine Collection of Persian and World Banknotes
Lot: 50

(x) Imperial Bank, Kingdom of Persia, 1 Toman, Burujird, 1925, serial number A/AA 052112, stamped with the year 1925 and has double letters on the lower split serial number.
Double letters in the low split serial numbers were only introduced in October 1928, by which time the 1 Toman prefixes had reached the A/Z necessitating the addition of another letter A/AA. The serial numbers also began to be printed in green from the A/AA prefixes.
The fact that the serial number is printed in green highlights that the year printed on this banknote is unusual, as it was only from late 1928 that banknotes displaying green serial numbers appeared
