(x) German Military WWI, Iran, 5 Tomans on 20 Mark, 19th February 1914, serial number N.0579833, Iran's strategic location made it of great importance to both the Allied and Central Powers during the war, however, it was Germany that established a diplomatic and military mission within Iran. Despite Iran's declaration of neutrality at the outset of war in 1914, Germany utilised its mission in Iran for subversive operations and the collection of intelligence aimed at undermining British and Russian influence in the region. Through the circulation of banknotes within Iran, Germany aimed to solidify its economic power and access to Iranian resources, oil reserves being essential for Germany's military and industrial needs.
