France: Chemin de Fer Sous-Marin Entre la France et L'Angleterre, certificate for 1 part, Paris 19[37],#308, 'Duplicata' written at top, issued to Rothschild Freres. This was an 1875 effort to build a submarine railway between France and England in partnership with the Channel Tunnel Company in England. The French company drilled for a few years in the French side but eventually plans were put aside because of fears of a French invasion on the British side. Why this certificate was duplicated in 1937 cannot be explained at this time. Only fair condition but rare and first time offered.
