Algeria, Banque de L´Algérie, 5000 Francs, 28th July 1942, serial number P.171 836, the Banque d'Algérie serves as the central bank of Algeria and holds a pivotal role within the nation's financial and monetary framework. At the time this banknote was issued, Algeria was under the dominion of French rule, firmly integrated into the broader French colonial influence in North Africa. During this historical juncture, Algeria did not possess the financial independence it enjoys today, resulting in the use of French Francs as the currency of the period, evidenced on this banknote. Algeria transitioned to its own currency, the Algerian Dinar, in the 1960s following its liberation from French colonialism.

This banknote is distinguished by its exquisite design, which incorporates both Arabic and French script. The imagery features a young Muslim woman adorned with jewelry on the front face, while the reverse side presents a port city and mountainous landscape. The note's design, marked by its intricate and considered composition, bears the hallmarks of French sensibilities, yet it interweaves elements of Arabic and Algerian artistic influences. Classified as a violet and multicoloured note, the specimen we showcase here dazzles any viewer with vibrant hues that have withstood the test of time
