NGC MS63 | German States, Frankfurt, Free City, 'Assembly of Princes' Taler, 1863, façade of the Römer (City Hall at Frankfurt), rev. crowned eagle, head left with wings spread, incuse upwards lettered edge, 12h (KM 372; Davenport 654), a scattering of light contact marks, yet with a rich cabinet tone in hues of ochre and blue, lustrous beneath, handsome extremely fine, in NGC holder, graded by MS63 (Cert. #6073170-004)
The ‘Assembly of Princes’ took place in the free city of Frankfurt in the summer of 1863. It was convened by the Austrian Emperor, Franz Joseph, who proposed reforms to the German Confederation. The King of Prussia, taking advice from Otto von Bismarck, boycotted the congress, making the Frankfurt meeting ultimately unsuccessful.
