Selection of Elizabethan Silver (7) | Elizabeth I (1558-1603), Second Issue, Shilling, 1560-1561, Tower, crowned bust 3C left, rev. square-topped shield over long cross fourchée, 12h, 5.38g, m.m. martlet, (North 1985; Spink 2555), cleaned and with excavation scratch across the bust, chipped and with separate fragment, fine, better in parts; Third and Fourth Issues, Sixpence, 1561, large crowned bust 3D left, 7h, 2.77g, m.m pheon (North 1997; Spink 2559); Sixpence, 1561, small crowned bust 1F, 10h, 2.99g, m.m pheon (North 1997; Spink 2560); Sixpence 1564, Tower, large crowned bust 3E left, 2.85g, m.m pheon (North 1997; Spink 2561B); Sixpence, 1565, Tower, intermediate crowned bust 4B left, 6h, 2.32g, m.m rose (North 1997; Spink 2561B); Sixpence, 1567, Tower, intermediate crowned bust 4B left, 3h, 2.69g, m.m coronet (North 1997; Spink 2565); Seventh Issue, Sixpence, 1601, crowned bust left, 11h, 2.56g, m.m 1, (North 2015; Spink 2585), the Sixpences field finds and thus lightly pitted or scratched, mostly flat to the portraits, fine, nevertheless the third lightly bent and bright yet a pleasing portrait, very fine (7)

Provenance

i) Found 27 December 2019, Vet's Field, Eastern End, with an accompanying note: 'The small fragment was found separately in the same area on Dec. 10th, 2021, two years after finding the main body of the coin on Dec 27th, 2019. The fragment, at the time, was correctly identified as that of an Elizabethan shilling!'
