(x) NGC AU Details | German East Africa, Wilhelm II (1888-1918), Gold 15-Rupien, 1916 T, Tabora, DEUTSCH OSTAFRIKA * 15 RUPIEN * crowned Imperial eagle over value, rev. roaring Elephant facing right with raised trunk in front of the Kilamanjaro, •1916 • T, edge plain, 7.10g, 12h (Fb. 2; AKS 627; KM 16.1), small nick in rim to left of date, and of bright and mellow-yellow fabric, the edge typically filed as usual for type, otherwise struck details very fine, in NGC holder, graded AU Details ~ Removed from Jewellery (Cert. #6382904-001)

This issue, for its usual imperfect striking and mint-filed rims is much maligned by third-party grading companies who consistently interpret these planchet flaws as after-market damage. However in this instance the brightness and smoothing belie a previous jewellery suspension
